The hydraulic thumb turns the bucket into a grab, so rock, root balls, brash and broken concrete can be picked and placed rather than dragged.
A thumb closes against the bucket so the machine can grip and place material rather than only scoop it.
Fitment depends on carrier tonnage and coupler standard; hydraulic tools additionally need an auxiliary circuit on the excavator.
