With the hydraulic thumb fitted, the machine handles awkward material — timber, rubble, stumps — that a plain bucket would only push around.

Adding a thumb converts the bucket into a grab, which transforms the machine for clearance and handling work.

Fitment depends on carrier tonnage and coupler standard; hydraulic tools additionally need an auxiliary circuit on the excavator.
